Following a Dream - Portrait Studio Photographer

GOT ME A JOB AS A PHOTOGRAPHER!!!

I am officially working as a portrait photographer in a studio. I had my first day yesterday training on how the business operates and how to do some basic posing for individuals. I am super excited for this new opportunity in life, and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my family, especially my amazing wife. I am hoping to gain more and more confidence with the repetitions I will get with working with people. Here is to the start of something new!

Following a Dream - The Plan

27Sep2020

I have been doing photography now for over ten years as a hobby. I am always that friend that has their camera with them and forces others around them to go to iconic spots just to get “the shot”. Today is the day, the day that I take that feeling of wanting to get photos during vacations and trips with friends and family, and transition that in to wanting to do this as a career. Even if it is a part time career and I have to find ways to side hustle.

There are these moments when at work at “my career job” that I find my self day dreaming of escaping the 9-5 and going out and seeing what the rest of the world has to offer. I want to go out and capture all aspects of life. Snapshots of fleeting moments, pictures of grand landscapes, the struggles that go on in the cities, and show people the beauty that they have to offer. Here is the plan:

  1. Reach out to other photographers and build my network

  2. Find a mentor(s) and pick their brain

  3. Establish my own sense of style in my images, what is a Brian Harris Photo look like?

  4. Go out and shoot

  5. Reach out to friends and family to do portrait sessions

  6. Study/Learn different techniques for editing

  7. Practice different compositions

  8. Research avenues of income

  9. Research best business practices for photographers

  10. Believe in myself. Remember that there are people around you to support you in your passions.
